Do I need an account?
No. The browser calculator has no account system, subscriptions or payment processing.
Is my trip saved?
No. The browser keeps inputs in the current tab's memory. Refreshing, closing or navigating away clears them. A copied summary is a separate snapshot. We cannot recover lost inputs.
Can friends edit my shared link?
No. It shows a read-only result. Anyone with the link can read and forward it. It is encoded, not encrypted, and cannot be revoked. Preview it before copying and avoid including sensitive names.
Which information is included?
Trip name, people, total, paid/share/net balances, suggested transfers and dated rates. Expense descriptions are excluded. The fragment after # is read in the recipient's browser and is not sent in the HTTP request to our server.
Can I split an expense unevenly?
Yes. Use Custom relative weights. Each expense may include different people. More than one person can pay.
Are the exchange rates current?
They are dated reference rates for the expense date, not guaranteed real-time quotes. The result shows the provider and requested/effective dates. Bank and card fees are excluded. See currency details.
What if rates fail?
The calculation stops with a clear error. Check the currencies, date and connection, then try again. No rate is invented. A supported currency may still lack a rate for a particular date.
Does this pay my friends?
No. Suggested transfers show amounts to pay outside SplitSeas. The app does not move money or record repayments.
Does it work offline?
Equal-currency arithmetic runs in the browser after loading. Different-currency results require a network request for rates. We do not offer a saved offline app or guarantee availability without a connection.
What are the limits?
Up to 30 people, 100 expenses and 20 distinct dated currency lookups per calculation. Dates range from January 4, 1999 through today; 14 currencies are supported.
