Start with the people who shared the bill, the total, the currency, the date and who paid. SplitSeas calculates each share and compares it with what each person already contributed.
A dinner for three
Ana paid USD 90 for dinner on January 6, 2025. Ana, Ben and Cam shared it equally. Each share is USD 30. Ana gets USD 60 back: Ben pays Ana USD 30 and Cam pays Ana USD 30. Ana's own share stays with Ana.
Use the calculator
- Add the people who shared the bill.
- Enter the full amount, currency and expense date.
- Choose who paid. If two people contributed, select More than one person paid and enter each contribution.
- Include only the people who shared this expense. Choose Equally, or use Custom for relative shares.
- Select See the split, check the balances, then preview a summary before copying it.
What about tips and tax?
Enter the final amount that was actually paid, including any agreed tip or tax. SplitSeas does not scan receipts or allocate individual menu items. If different items belong to different people, enter separate expenses with the right people included.
When a penny will not divide evenly
USD 10 divided among Ana, Ben and Cam gives shares of USD 3.34, USD 3.33 and USD 3.33 in participant order. The extra cent goes to the largest fractional share, with participant order breaking ties. Every cent is accounted for.
For a 25/75 split, use weights 1 and 3. See unequal shares for a worked example. If the bill was paid abroad, read how currency conversion works.
